HOW TO DO A FIVE-DAY MILK THISTLE DETOX

Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) is one of the most well-researched and revered herbs in the world for supporting liver function, liver repair and optimizing liver detoxification.

Known as the king of liver herbs, Milk Thistle is a powerful cleansing tool used to detoxify the body of environmental pollution, heavy metals, alcohol poisoning, prescription medicine toxicity and radiation.

One of the active components of Milk Thistle it is called Silybin, which helps keep the body’s glutathione levels stay up (Glutathione is a liver-loving powerful anti-oxidant). Silybin is not as bioavailable as we would like it to be because it has a hard time dissolving in water. Therefore, in this Milk Thistle Detox Protocol, we will also be taking Shilajit, a powerful Ayurvedic supplement to promote the uptake of the Silybin in the Milk Thistle. Yup, it’s a Milk Thistle Detox Bio-Hack!

If you’re not familiar with Shilajit, it is a foundational Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicinal tonic used to fortify and detoxify the body. Shilajit contains up to 80 trace minerals yet its most important component is Fulvic acid. Fulvic acid is a neutralizer of toxins in the body and the oldest known natural internal cleansing substance on earth. One of Fulvic acid’s main benefits is its ability to promote the uptake (absorption) of the most powerful components in herbal tonics into the body. In this case, the Fulvic acid in the Shilajit will assist in carrying the Silybin from the Milk Thistle into the cells. So not only will the Shilajit be boosting the bioavailability of the Silybin but also acting as the transporter for the most important part of the Milk Thistle deeper into the tissues of the liver.

The protocol requires you to gradually increase your daily dosage of both the Milk Thistle and the Shilajit over the five days, and then gradually decrease again.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

1. 1500 grams (1.5 kg) organic milk thistle seeds (a little more than enough for the 5 days)
2. A Nutribullet, Vitamix or equally powerful blender/food processor
3. Shilajit resin or powder (Buy high quality from a known supplier with good reviews and source references, beware of fakes or fillers!)

HOW TO MAKE THE MILK THISTLE MYLK

I have found it’s unnecessary to use Milk Thistle extracts or powders, and prefer using the raw Milk Thistle seed in their natural state to make the detox “Mylk”. Don’t use Milk Thistle powder because it is usually rancid or of lower potency.

The following is the recipe for 1000ml of Milk Thistle Mylk.
Over the five days, you will be consuming a total of 7 litres of Milk Thistle Mylk.

INGREDIENTS FOR 1 LITRE OF MTM

• 200 Grams Organic Milk Thistle Seeds
• 1 litre filtered water

DIRECTIONS

Measure 200 grams of milk thistle seeds and place in your Nutribullet or Magimix with the seed/nut-grinding blade. Grind into a fine powder.
Add 1 liter of water and give another blend until the Mylk is formed.
No need to strain out the seed grains; they are a great source of fibre and will just settle at the bottom of your Mylk if you don’t want to drink them.

Make the daily amount needed each morning according to the protocol and store in glass bottles in the fridge or on the counter. Shake before drinking.

HOW TO TAKE THE SHILJALT

It is recommended that you take Shilajit in it’s most natural form, resin. Although you may want to research your own dosage for this protocol, the standard dosage is 250mg-500mg 2 times a day. If you are taking the resin, this is about the size of a pea.
Dissolve the pea sizes Shilajit resin in a small amount of warm filtered water then add to your Milk Thistle Mylk in the morning and evening.
*It can take up to 2 minutes of stirring for the Shilajit to dissolve in warm filtered water.

THE MILK THISTLE MYLK DETOX 5-DAY PROTOCOL

DAY 1.

Make 1000ml (1 liter) of Milk Thistle Mylk in the morning. Store in the fridge in glass bottles and drink throughout the day on an empty stomach (between meals) preferably in 200ml doses
Take 250mg-500mg Shilajit resin in the morning and in the evening.

DAY 2.

Make 1500ml (1.5 liter) of Milk Thistle Mylk in the morning. Store in the fridge in glass bottles and drink throughout on an empty stomach (between meals) preferably in 200ml doses
Take 250mg-500mg Shilajit resin in the morning and in the evening.

DAY 3.

Make 2000ml (2 liters) of Milk Thistle Mylk in the morning. Store in the fridge in glass bottles and drink throughout on an empty stomach (between meals) preferably in 200ml doses
Take 250mg-500mg Shilajit resin in the morning and in the evening.

DAY 4.

Make 1500ml (1.5 liter) of Milk Thistle Mylk in the morning. Store in the fridge in glass bottles and drink throughout on an empty stomach (between meals) preferably in 200ml doses
Take 250mg-500mg Shilajit resin in the morning and in the evening.

DAY 5

Make 1000ml (1 liter) of Milk Thistle Mylk in the morning. Store in the fridge in glass bottles and drink throughout on an empty stomach (between meals) preferably in 200ml doses
Take 250mg-500mg Shilajit resin in the morning and in the evening.

TIPS & WARNINGS

Milk thistle is well tolerated and considered safe with extremely rare reports of side effect. Extremely high dosages may cause stomach upset and have a laxative effect.

With any effective detox protocol, you may experience some level of detox symptoms. These symptoms can look like anything from mild skin irritations (such as rashes or pimples), headaches, slight nausea, lack of energy, and even random pain in the body. All detox symptoms are in fact a good sign that things are moving out, are always temporary and nothing to fear.
Best method of relief from any detox symptom:

1. Sleep/rest/nap more
2. Drink more water
3. REPEAT 1 + 2
4. Don’t get attached or react to the “problem” just let it be, knowing it will pass: trusting in the process of detox.

Ramp up your detox protocol by cutting out all sugars and adding in a lymphatic drainage massage, a few trips to the sauna, some short bursts of cardio exercise (get a little sweat on) and plenty of down time.
